From the Podium to the Warehouse: The Story of Director’s Assistant, LLC

Director’s Assistant wasn’t born in a boardroom—it was born in a band hall.

Founded by former music educator Chris Walls, Director’s Assistant began with a simple but powerful mission: make life easier for music educators. After years of standing on the podium, planning performances, managing uniforms, and juggling the hundreds of details that come with running a successful music program, Chris saw firsthand how much time directors spent on logistics—and how little support existed for the behind-the-scenes work.

What started as a side project quickly grew into a full-service resource for band, choir, and orchestra directors. From formalwear fittings and uniform logistics to custom-designed show tops and equipment, Director’s Assistant was built with one goal in mind: to give directors their time back.

Over the years, Director’s Assistant has grown into a trusted partner for schools across the country. We don’t just deliver products—we solve problems. We listen. We know that fitting a middle school orchestra on a budget isn’t the same as suiting up a 300-member marching band, and we treat every program with the same level of care and respect—no matter the size.

One of our proudest innovations is the EZ Hem™ Tuxedo—an idea born out of frustration and perfected through experience. With its built-in hemming system, directors can size pants on the spot without sewing or tailoring, saving time and eliminating the stress of guessing inseams for growing students. It’s the kind of solution that only a fellow director could have imagined—and exactly the kind of thing we exist to provide.

Today, Director’s Assistant is proud to partner with some of the top brands in the industry, including Corps Design, Southeastern Apparel, Director's Showcase, StylePLUS Band, and Dinkles. We’re also the only authorized dealer of the EZ Hem™ Tuxedo—an exclusive product available in bulk through Director’s Assistant and to the public through our partner site, QuickTuxedos.com.

Through it all, our philosophy remains simple: Looking unified is dignified. We believe in giving students the confidence to perform at their best—and giving directors the freedom to focus on the music.
